Policies & Procedures
Clear structure creates safety — allowing the process to unfold with trust and ease.
Overview
Therapy is both a professional and relational process. These policies are designed to provide transparency, consistency, and mutual respect for our shared work together. They outline how sessions are scheduled, how communication is managed, and how information is handled, ensuring that our time remains focused on what matters most — your process of growth and integration.
Confidentiality
All information shared in session is strictly confidential and protected by professional ethics and provincial privacy legislation. Exceptions to confidentiality are limited and occur only in situations where:
there is an imminent risk of harm to yourself or another,
there is reason to believe a child or vulnerable adult is being harmed or neglected,
records are subpoenaed by court order, or
you provide written consent to share information with another party (e.g., a physician or other professional).
If you have questions about how confidentiality applies to your situation, we can discuss this during our initial session.
Communication
Email is used primarily for scheduling and administrative matters. Because email and voicemail are not crisis or counselling services, they are not monitored continuously. Messages are typically responded to within two business days.
If you are in crisis or require immediate support, please contact:
Alberta Mental Health Helpline: 1-877-303-2642
BC Mental Health Support Line: 310-6789 (no area code)
or dial 911 for emergency assistance.
Cancellations & Missed Appointments
A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
The full session fee applies to late cancellations and missed appointments.
I understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. If something emergent occurs, please reach out — I will do my best to accommodate flexibility when possible.
Records & Privacy
All client information and session records are stored securely in compliance with provincial privacy legislation and the standards of the College of Alberta Psychologists. You have the right to access your records or request corrections at any time. All electronic communication through the JaneApp system is encrypted and secure.
Professional Boundaries
Therapy is a professional relationship. To preserve the integrity of the process, communication outside of session is limited to administrative or scheduling purposes. I do not engage with clients via social media or personal text messaging.
If we encounter one another in a public setting, I will take your lead in acknowledging the connection.
Closing Note
These policies are not rules — they are agreements that hold the container of our work.
Clarity allows presence. Structure allows flow.
If you have any questions about these guidelines, I welcome the conversation at any time.
