Narrative & Cognitive-Behavioural Approaches
What if the way you see things is only part of the picture?
Have you noticed how certain stories about yourself seem to follow you?
Over time, we develop ways of understanding ourselves through our relationships, experiences, and the meanings we attach to them. Some of these stories support us, while others may leave us feeling limited by beliefs about who we are or what is possible.
Narrative Therapy invites us to explore these stories with curiosity, recognizing that our experiences influence us but do not have to define us. Together, we can question familiar interpretations and make room for perspectives that may have been overlooked.
What happens when familiar thoughts keep leading to familiar responses?
Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are closely connected. Sometimes, our interpretations and responses become so familiar that we hardly notice them, even when they no longer serve us.
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps us recognize these patterns and examine the beliefs that sustain them. By questioning familiar assumptions and considering aspects of an experience we may have overlooked, we can develop a more balanced understanding of our circumstances and greater flexibility in how we choose to respond.
What might become possible when you see the bigger picture?
Narrative Therapy and CBT offer different but complementary ways of exploring the meanings and patterns shaping our experiences.
Together, we may examine the stories you have come to believe about yourself alongside the thoughts and behaviours that reinforce them. As our understanding broadens, we can begin to recognize choices that may not have seemed available before.
Wondering what else might be possible?
We can explore what has shaped your understanding of yourself and consider what new perspectives may have to offer.
